Supervisors have a huge impact on the well-being of the supervisees and trainees that they oversee. Even though they may not control all of the contingencies that impact staff, supervisors can enhance their practices in a wide variety of ways that can increase work enjoyment and job satisfaction. These strategies include providing effective positive feedback and reinforcers, but even more importantly, we will discuss how to reduce aversive control and aversive job conditions that may be negatively impacting staff, increasing burnout, or supporting increased turnover in ABA organizations. Additionally, professional development planning is discussed as a strategy for improving job satisfaction, as well as supervisors coaching their supervisees and trainees in self-care behaviors.
